Môn học này giúp sinh viên hiểu và vận dụng một cách có hệ thống các công cụ phân tích định lượng cơ bản  về lợi ích  –  chi phí để ước lượng ngân lưu và tính toán các chỉ tiêu hiệu quả của dự án đầu tư; đồng thời giải thích làm thế nào để có thể áp dụng các phân tích đó từ nhiều góc độ khác nhau, tức là từ quan điểm  của nhà đầu tư, Ngân hàng và quốc gia nói chung. 

Sinh viên được trang bị  các kỹ thuật phân tích rủi ro và vận dụng các kỹ thuật này kết hợp với khả năng xử lý các bảng tính trên nền excel và phần mềm chuyên dùng để đánh giá rủi ro một dự án đầu tư cụ thể (nhận dạng rủi ro và đo lường sự tác động của rủi ro đến kết quả dự án) và lưu ý các giải pháp giảm thiểu rủi ro nếu dự án được quyết định đầu tư 

Thêm vào đó, môn học cũng nhấn mạnh đến việc đưa ra được những lựa chọn hợp lý về sự phân bổ nguồn lực có hiệu quả trong các quyết định đầu tư dự án dựa trên sự đánh đổi giữa lợi nhuận và rủi ro.
